Lori Tolliver-Jones, Landscape Designer & Marketing Specialist

In graduate school, Lori studied landscape architecture with a focus on historic preservation.  After graduation, she held positions in Kansas and Vermont evaluating and documenting the historic significance of a variety of sites including a military post, parks, parkways and private properties.

Her work included documenting sites, evaluating the impact of proposed building projects, and helping the public appreciate the historical significance of these sites through interpretation.

After meeting her husband, they moved to this area where she became involved with Historic Smithfield. Here, Lori revised the interpretive garden as the garden coordinator and held several positions before becoming the director. She joined the Blacksburg Museum and Cultural Foundation for a while and was part of the restoration process for the Black house and educational & outreach programming for the museum.

To continue her involvement in the design & horticulture field she worked at Crow’s Nest Greenhouses while also beginning her own design business, assisting home owners in realizing their desires for beautiful outdoor spaces.

After working on a few consultations with James, he offered her a design position at Back to Nature Landscaping. Lori began her studies in landscape architecture because of her love for the outdoors and the desire to help others find ways to enjoy being in nature.

She values the opportunity at BTN to work with clients and help them actualize their vision for an outdoor space they will love and enjoy.

In her free time, Lori likes to work in her own garden, hike, and paint with watercolors.
