Mickey Quesenberry

Mickey started working in horticulture in 2011 at the Pete Dye River Course while working on his Horticulture Degree at Virginia Tech. After finishing his Horticulture degree at Tech, with minors in Sports Field and Turf Grass management and Agriculture Business, he joined Southern Landscape Group as a landscape technician.

After 3 years, he was offered a great opportunity to manage Landscaping Maintenance for a variety of properties at a landscape company in Florida.  It was there that he got to hone one of his favorite aspects of his job – logistics.

Managing the maintenance of landscapes on large, upscale properties with crews ranging from 7 – 28 people at a single site, ordering tasks and providing materials and tools requires considerable thought and strategy, something he continues to enjoy.

While there, he also encouraged his branch to start installing hardscapes, a change that the Regional Manager was initially skeptical of, but found to be a valuable addition to their services.

His passion is still designing and overseeing the installation of outdoor living spaces, and is the role in which he is now working for Back to Nature.  A recent project combined his love of installation, planning logistics and seeing a rewarding end result.

At the site of an artesian well, his team created new spring boxes, patios, walkways and walls to make this site more accessible, enjoyable, and beautiful.  As he manages his projects, he pays special attention to setting expectations for himself and his crew.

In his free time, he likes to fish, either offshore or in freshwater locations, ride his Harley, work on his trucks, and do target shooting.  After being pulled in multiple directions at work, each of these occupations lets him relax and focus on just what’s in front of him.
