Tish Poteet, Landscape Designer

Tish’s first significant step into the world of horticulture was a job at Laurel Creek Nursery and taking the Master Gardener’s course with the Extension Service.  She found she loved helping clients with plant selections and design suggestions.

This experience, a degree in biology, and her upbringing as the daughter of an artist made landscape design an attractive career direction.  After leaving Laurel Creek to start a family, she began helping friends and family with design projects.

Once her children began school, she did too, taking classes at Virginia Tech’s horticulture department.  She was a horticulture intern at the Community Design Assistance Center, and was able to help with a variety of projects, including school yards, community centers, streetscapes, and rain gardens.

After her coursework, she started her own company, doing mostly residential designs and briefly offering garden maintenance services.  She has worked with another landscape company as a sales representative and now enjoys her position as a plant designer at Back to Nature.

She enjoys helping clients develop beautiful and functional spaces that encourage them to spend more time outdoors.  She also appreciates being able to collaborate with account representatives and crews, and seeing the rewarding end result that the teams’ efforts create.

Back to Nature’s company culture and emphasis on strengthening our community is particularly appealing to her.

In her free time, she likes to spend time with her family, garden, cook, sing and read.
